Anjan Chakraverty lives in Varanasi, dividing his time between painting and teaching art history at the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University. After a post-graduation in creative painting, he did his doctoral research on Landscape in Indian Miniature Paintings. The first edition of his book Indian Miniature Painting (Pub.1996) was followed by Sacred Buddhist Painting(pub.1998). He was awarded a research fellowship by the Nehru Trust and the Victoria and Albert Museum to work on The Shikargarh Motif in the Painting and Textile Art of Mughal India. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Handicrafts Resurgence in 2002, his monograph Ali Hasan-The Master Naqshaband of Banaras Brocades was released by the President of India. He has also published articles on Textile history and nineteenth century Banaras lithographs.
