LOTZ is an engineer, economist, development banker, publisher, and university lecturer, employed as Head of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation. He has edited albums of gramophone recordings and authored books on ragtime, jazz, radio broadcasting, black history, and individual musicians as well as articles in scholarly journals. He was a special adviser to the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, to which he contributed numerous articles.
