Thomas L. Connelly (1938-1991) was a professor of history at the University of South Carolina and the author or coauthor of many books about the Civil War, including Army of the Heartland: The Army of Tennessee, 1861-1862; Autumn of Glory: The Army of Tennessee, 1862-1865; God and General Longstreet: The Lost Cause and the Southern Mind; and The Politics of Command: Factions and Ideas in Confederate Strategy. He received the Jefferson Davis Award and the Fletcher Pratt Award, among other honors.
