Lascelle Meserve de Basily was the wife of Nicolas de Basily, a diplomat of imperial Russia. She was born in the United States in 1890 and brought up in Paris and elsewhere in Europe. She married Nicolas in Paris in 1919. Following the Russian Revolution, neither returned to Russia. Following her husband's death in 1963, Lascelle Meserve de Basily generously donated his papers, library, and art collection to the Hoover Institution. She died in Switzerland in 1989.
