About the Author

Ken Black is Professor of Decision Sciences in the Schoolof Business and Public Administration at the University ofHouston-Clear Lake. He earned a Bachelor of Arts inmathematics from Graceland College, a Master of Arts in mathematicseducation from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a Doctor ofPhilosophy in business administration in management science and aDoctor of Philosophy in educational research from the University ofNorth Texas. Ken has taught all levels of statistics courses: forecasting, management science, market research andproduction/operations management. He has published 20 journalarticles, over 20 professional papers and two textbooks: Businessstatistics: an introductory course and Business statistics: forcontemporary decision making. Ken has consulted for many differentcompanies, including Aetna, the City of Houston, NYLCare, AT&T, Johnson Space Centre, Southwest Information Resources, ConnectCorporation and Eagle Engineering.

John Asafu-Adjaye is an Associate Professor in the Schoolof Economics at The University of Queensland. He obtained aBachelor of Science (Honours) in agricultural economics from theUniversity of Ghana and then earned a Master of Science inoperations research from the Aston Business School, UK. Hecompleted a Doctor of Philosophy in natural resource economics atthe University of Alberta. John teaches business and economicstatistics, environmental economics, applied econometrics andinter-industry economic modelling. He has carried out research andprovided consultancy services on various economic development andenvironmental issues in a number of countries including Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Ghana, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, thePhilippines, Vietnam and China. He has authored or co-authored over70 research-based publications, including eight books andmonographs, nine book chapters, 49 peer-reviewed journalarticles,10 commissioned reports, and 11 refereed conferenceproceedings.

Paul Burke is a Senior Lecturer in the School ofMarketing at the University of Technology, Sydney. He obtained aBachelor of Economics (First Class Honours in Marketing) from TheUniversity of Sydney. While completing his Doctor of Philosophy hewas the recipient of an Australian Postgraduate Award, SydneyUniversity Sports Union Scholarship, Sakasawa Young LeadersFellowship, Centre for Applied Marketing Research (UNSW/AGSM) Awardand UTS FOB Doctoral Completion Scholarship. Paul teaches businessstatistics and has published seven journal articles. His researchinterests include understanding how to simultaneously model aconsumer's preferences for various product features and theconsistency with which these choices are made.

Nazim Khan is a Lecturer and Consultant in the School ofMathematics and Statistics at The University of Western Australia.He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering fromThe University of Western Australia, a Technical TeachersCertificate from the Fiji Institute of Teaching, and a Bachelor ofScience (Honours) in mathematics and a Doctor of Philosophy fromThe University of Western Australia. Nazim has taught decisiontheory at the MBA level, financial mathematics, forecasting andstatistics. He has published several journal articles. Nazim hasconsulted for various companies and

Gerard King was a Lecturer in the School of InformationScience at Deakin University. He originally obtained a Bachelor ofElectrical Engineering from Queen's University, Belfast, anda Master of Engineering from Manchester University, UK. He taughtelectrical engineering at the Gordon Institute of Technology, Geelong, and then at Deakin University, Geelong. He later obtaineda Master of Science (Management Sciences) from Imperial College, London. His Doctor of Philosophy was obtained from the Universityof South Australia.

Nelson Perera is an Associate Professor and Deputy Deanof the Sydney Business School at the University of Wollongong.Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) from theUniversity of Sri Lanka, a Master of Commerce (Honours) from theUniversity of Wollongong and a Doctor of Philosophy in economicsfrom La Trobe University. Nelson has taught econometrics, forecasting, management science, market research and statistics. Hehas published 20 journal articles and four book chapters, as wellas two computer manuals: MINITAB for commerce and Data analysiswith SPSS V.15, 3e. Nelson's main research interests are inthe fields of monetary policy, applied econometrics and applicationof statistics to business areas.

Carl Sherwood is a Lecturer in the School of Economics atThe University of Queensland. He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering(Civil -- First Class Honours) and Master of BusinessAdministration (MBA) from The University of Queensland. With twentyyears of professional experience as an engineer, Carl has craftedhis teaching by capturing this wealth of business experience tomake courses relevant to students. Carl has been teaching a varietyof subjects at The University of Queensland for more than a decade.He has primarily concentrated on teaching statistics, at both theundergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as teaching businesseconomics to managers studying at MBA level. As a result of histeaching efforts, Carl has won a UQ School of Economics TeachingExcellence Award on three occasions and a UQ Citation forOutstanding Contributions to Student Learning, and has beennominated for a National Teaching Citation Award. His researchinterests centre on exploring how statistics can be moremeaningful, practical and engaging for students.

Reetu Verma is a Senior Lecturer in the School ofEconomics and Sub Dean in the Faculty of Commerce at the Universityof Wollongong. Reetu earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) fromthe University of Wollongong, Graduate Diploma in Applied Financeand Investment from the Financial Services Institute ofAustralasia, and a Master of Commerce (Honours) and Doctor ofPhilosophy in Economics from the University of Wollongong. Reetuhas taught all levels of quantitative subjects, including businessstatistics, quantitative analysis for decision making, businessforecasting and econometrics. Reetu won the Faculty of CommerceTeaching Excellence Award in 2008. She has published 10 journalarticles and is an Associate Member of the Financial ServicesInstitute of Australasia (FINSIA) and the Economic Society ofAustralia (ESA). Reetu's main research interests includeeconomic modelling, applied econometrics, economic growth anddevelopment in Asia.

Saleh A Wasimi is an Associate Professor at CentralQueensland University, Rockhampton, Australia. He is the Head ofProgram, Mathematics and Statistics in the School of Informationand Communication Technology. He earned his Doctor of Philosophydegree from The University of Iowa, USA and his Masters andBachelor degrees in water resources engineering from BangladeshUniversity of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka. He has worked inBangladesh, the USA and Australia as an academic and conductedresearch and consultancy works in Italy, Denmark, Sweden andIreland. Saleh's current research interests includestochastic processes, optimisation, water resources planning anddevelopment, disaster management, hydrology and hydraulics. Hehasauthored in excess of 50 refereed articles.
