Lieutenant General V K Nayar, PVSM,SM (Retd) was commissioned in 1951 and retired as GOC-in-C Western Command in 1989. He has been the governor of Manipur and Nagaland and was a member of the Govt. of Indias Task Force on Internal Security He saw action in Sino-Indian war, Indo-Pak wars and counter insurgency operations in Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur. He was awarded Sena Medal for operations in high altitude against the Chinese and Param Vashist Seva Medal for his services of exceptionally high order in command of a Mountain Division during height of Meitei and Naga insurgencies in Nagaland and Manipur while still in command from 1981 and 1983. After serving as Additional Director General of Military operation 1983-1985, he took over a Corps in Punjab. He was also Colonel of the Parachute Regiment.
