About the Author

Dr. Neely has worked in the mental health field for more than twenty years and holds a PhD in counselor education. She believes that building healthy self-esteem for girls has to start when they are young. Her philosophy is to use history as a tool to educate and motive young girls to embrace their natural beauty. Dr. Neely feels that it's not enough to tell children to love themselves, they also have to be given the history behind the message. Her book gives children a history lesson about African hair and instills pride and heritage. As a licensed professional counselor she works with women and girls on building self-esteem in her private practice.
