Paul A. Haslam obtained a PhD in political studies from Queen's
University. Prior to joining the University of Ottawa, he also
worked at the Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL), a
non-governmental organization based in Ottawa that works on issues
of public policy in Latin America. He remains a senior fellow of
FOCAL. His teaching and research interests span both international
development and international political economy. His current
research focusses on corporate social responsibility, state-firm
relations in Latin America (particularly Argentina and Chile), and
the international regulation of foreign direct investment in Latin
America.
Jessica Schafer is an adjunct professor in the School of
International Development and Global Studies at the University of
Ottawa. She has conducted research for the United States Agency for
International Development, the Overseas Development Institute, and
the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom.
Her book on former combatants of the civil war in Mozambique was
published with Palgrave Macmillan in 2007. She is on the executive
board of the Canadian
Association for Studies in International Development and on the
editorial committee of the International Development Series of the
University of Ottawa Press.
Pierre Beaudet is a replacement professor in the School of
International Development and Global Studies at the University of
Ottawa. He has 25 years of experience in international development
as a researcher and manager of various programs in Africa, Asia and
Latin America, and as a consultant for CIDA, the United Nations
Development Programme, and several Canadian and international NGOs.
In these contexts, he produced extensive analyses of development
issues and the impacts of
globalization in developing countries such as Brazil, India,
Palestine, South Africa, and Niger. He has taught in a institutions
around the world.
