Reviews

... a critically informed, beautifully written, lucid account of each actor's oeuvre ... Throughout, the author provides meticulous analysis of films that have, in some cases, been extensively treated elsewhere. What distinguishes Perriam's approach is the fact that the analysis is always grounded in a complex mapping of the stars' on-screen identities and their intersections with off-screen personas, socio-economic factors, and the cultural climate of post-Franco Spain ... ground-breaking ... impeccable scholarship ... exemplary work. Modern Language Review Perriam is able to juggle films from chapter to chapter without ever allowing the material to appear jaded or repetitive. Modern Language Review
