Michael Leifer is Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economic and Political Science where he is also chairman of the Management Committee of a new research Centre for the Study of Asian Economy, Politics and Society. He has engaged in research and travelled extensively within South-East Asia for over three decades. His publications include Indonesia's Foreign Policy (Allen & Unwin, 1983) and ASEAN and the Security of South-East Asia (Routledge, 1989).
