"Dashiell Hammett is as American as a sawed-off shotgun ... he is so hard-boiled you could roll him on the White House lawn." --Dorothy Parker, The New Yorker "A treasure beyond price for fans of both the classic Hammett novel and the three film versions of the doomed quest for a black bird. An incredible amalgam of photos, memos, letters, reviews, whatever, this will make fans of the book or the film gasp as one unexpected delight succeeds another. With this book, wonders really do never cease." -- Kenneth Turan , Los Angeles Times "An extraordinary book, it includes 250 illustrations and is a giant treasure box filled with pictures, lists, articles, and more." -- New York Sun "Includes just about everything you always wanted to know ... and about a zillion other treasures.
