Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa has been a Member of the Executive Board of
the European Central Bank since June 1998. Previously, he has been
Director-General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the
Commission of European Communities, Brussels, Deputy Director
General of the Banca d'Italia, and Chairman of CONSOB (Commissione
Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa). He has also held several
senior international positions, such as Chairman of the Basel
Committee on
Banking Supervision, and is currently the Chairman of the G-10
Committee on Payments and Settlement Systems. He is the author of
The Road to Monetary Union in Europe and other books, essays, and
articles.
