Title: Lecture offers preview of Denton history book
Author: BJ Lewis
Publisher: Denton RC
Date: 9/16/09 Denton County residents will get a chance to preview
some of the material in the historical book Images of America:
Denton during a lecture sponsored by the Denton County Museums at
12:15 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum. Authors
Georgia Caraway and Kim Cupit will present information on the
process of compiling the book and some tidbits about Denton
history, to give residents a taste ahead of the November release
date. "Once the book comes out, they will be able to take the
images home and learn a bit more," said Cupit, Denton County
Museums curator. The book took three months of work and searches
through thousands of archived photographs. More than 220 photos
were selected from the archives of the Denton County Museums, the
Denton Record-Chronicle and the Denton Public Library. Well-known
and never-before-published photographs are featured in the book.
Caraway, Denton County Museums executive director, was on vacation
and not available for comment Wednesday. Some parts of history that
did not make it into the book might be touched on in the lecture,
Cupit said. "We only had so many words. We might be able to expand
on some of the subjects in [the lecture]. We don't want to give
away everything in the book, either, because we want people to buy
the book," she said. Cupit said it helped to have two people
working together on the book. "We each had our own areas of Denton
history we knew, and it was interesting how we were able to bring
those separate areas together," she said. "It made it a more
well-rounded book to have two people's background and knowledge
come together." Cupit and Caraway were able to learn things about
Denton they didn't know before, Cupit said. She said some people
will read the book and be able to say, "Oh, I didn't know that."
For others, the book will jog their memories. BOOK FACTS
