''Descombes' Proust is a brilliant excursion by a philosopher into the domain of literary criticism. Precisely because it raises as a central issue the question of the relation of philosophical knowledge to literary knowledge, it will interest theorists and those philosophers concerned with the nature and function of literary discourse.
