Given that the Bury Bible is one of the universally acknowledged
masterpieces of medieval art, it is surprising that there has never
been a readily available study of it or an adequate set of colour
plates... these full scale colour plates witll come as a revelation
to most viewers. Thomson has provided an excellent introduction...
both the reproductions and the text do full justice to this
hitherto undervalued monument of English art and it is much to be
hoped that it will be acquired by librarians as well as by
bibliophiles. BURLINGTON MAGAZINE [C.M.Kauffmann] Art historians
will be delighted that the means have been found to publish a full
compendium of [the Bible's] magnificent decoration, all in colour
and at actual size..It is indeed suitably grand and the quality of
the plates is excellent.
