Vivian Maier was born in New York City and spent much of her childhood in France. After returning to the United States, she worked for many years as a nanny in Chicago. She took more than 100,000 photographs during her life. Since her death in 2009, Vivian Maier has become a photographic phenomenon. Richard Cahan is a former picture editor for theChicago Sun-Times and was the director of CITY 2000. He is the coauthor ofEdgar Miller and the Handmade Home, The Lost Panoramas, Multifarious, andVivian Maier: Out of the Shadows. He lives in Skokie, Illinois. Michael Williams is the coauthor of 10 books, includingEdgar Miller and the Handmade Home, The Lost Panoramas, Multifarious, andVivian Maier: Out of the Shadows. He lives in Chicago.
