About the Author

Billy G. Ferguson spent 40 years with UP and UPI. A veteran of World War II, he went to work for UP as a sports writer in Atlanta after two years with the Jacksonville (Florida) Journal and wound up as UPI's Managing Editor in Washington in 1990. Richard M. Harnett joined United Press in San Francisco in 1951 and spent 36 years with the company, all in the San Francisco bureau. A veteran of World War II, Harnett served as UP's Asian editor during the Korean War.
