Billed as 'the world’s datebook,' this old-fashioned reference book, published since 1957, has not lost its luster. Of course, there is an online component, and we’ve all learned to use the new technology for our endless reference questions, but the pleasure of a day-to-day listing of festivals, celebrations, and anniversaries throughout the world in one volume is unestimable. Besides the usefulness (information about the Olympics in Rio de Janiero), there is the quirky, fun factor with entries like National Tamale Day and National Little Pampered Dog Day. The guide works as a book to browse, a source to check upcoming events both at home and when traveling, and as a reminder that something is happening somewhere, every day.
