JOHN MARTIN ROBINSON is a leading historian of the British country house and a consultant to many of the great country house restorations. He is Maltravers Herald Extraordinary and Librarian to the Duke of Norfolk. A regular contributor to Country Life, he is also vice-chairman of the Georgian Group.
