About the Author

Simon Sebag Montefiore was born in 1965 and read history at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. His first history book Catherine the Great & Potemkin was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson, Duff Cooper, and Marsh Biography Prizes. Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar won the History Book of the Year Prize at the 2004 British Book Awards. Young Stalin was the winner of the 2007 Costa Biography Prize, a finalist in the LA Times Book Prize for Best Biography and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and won the Bruno Kreisky Prize for Political Literature. He is also the author of a novel, Sashenka. Montefiore's books are worldwide bestsellers, published in 34 languages. 101 World Heroes, the companion volume to Monsters, was published by Quercus in 2007 and has been translated into nine languages. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he lives in London with his wife, the novelist Santa Montefiore, and their two children. He is now writing Jerusalem: the Biography, a fresh history of the Middle East.
