Gérard Jaouen he set up the CNRS URA (Associated Research Unit) N°
403, and the UMR
7576 in 1997, of which he is the director. He is now appointed as
an exceptional class professor and has been elected as a member of
the CNRS national Committee in 1991 and 1995.
Professor Jaouen is the author of 300 papers and 14 reviews, and
holds 10 patents. His
achievements in bioorganometallic chemistry has been recognized by
the French Academy of
Sciences in 1996, (J. Reynaud award) Moreover he has been elected
to the prestigious and elitist "Institut Universitaire de France"
in 1997.
"...an excellent source of information on a rapidly developing
field. It is therefore highly recommended to all researchers active
in or interested in this area."
Angewandte Chemie International Edition
"This book contains a series of well written articles...
In essence the book is aimed at biochemists and chemists. The
former will find many of the articles in the core of the text,
detailing the use of organometallics as bioprobes, to be highly
informative, providing a useful historical background and a
description of the current synergy between organometallic chemistry
and bioscience."
Chemistry World
"A strength of this text lies in the diversity of topics that are
covered in such a succinct fashion. It will appeal to a broad
spectrum of coordination chemists (organometallic to bioinorganic)
as well as biochemists and molecular and cellular biologists
needing a primer in this area...It should find a place on all
library shelves and will no doubt be a routine reference text for
specialists in this field."
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry
"This book contains a series of well written articles."
Chemistry World
"... an interesting and valuable resource for those who wish to
learn more about the progress and challenges that face the emerging
field of bioorganometallic chemistry."
Journal of the American Chemical Society
"... It is worth emphasising that this is the first book devoted to
the subject of bioorganometallic chemistry. Is is also noteworthy
that this book ist not just a bioorganometrallic version of a
bioorganic textbook; in fact, the emphasis of this book is quite
different. It is directed much more towards the medicinal
allpications of bioorganometallics compounds (although not
exclusivley), from the cisplatin-like compounds that are remarkably
effective without containing an obvious biological ligand to
determince activity, through those which are closer to organic
drugs, with an organometallic apendage providing unique and
benefical properties, to those where the metal imparts a unique
property as in radiopharmaceuticals. ..."
