Reviews

This CD-ROM reproduces a standard UN print resource intended to cover the spectrum of health and safety issues in the workplace. The range of topics covered by the more than 1000 articles is phenomenal, ranging from general workplace issues, such as noise, heat, violence, accident prevention, ergonomics, and the use of visual display units, to more specific entries on the issue of Karoshi (the Japanese term for death from overwork), occupational carcinogens, right to know, air quality monitoring, and stigmata. Industry specific information is also plentiful, and the scope is impressive. Workers in the chemical, manufacturing, and transport industries are well covered but so are dancers, photographers, actors, and those in the sex industry. There is a complete index to the disc, as well as a directory of authors and all chemicals mentioned. Bottom Line: A wonderful reference source that all libraries should have in some format. The third edition was published in 1983, so this update is long overdue. Highly recommended for all public and university libraries.
