Reviews

This is an updated and slightly revised version of a classic historical account of Palestine written by a strongly partisan Palestinian Arab. Those familiar with editions one (New World, 1967) or two (Caravan Bks., 1979) will be most interested in this edition's Part 8, which brings the reader up to speed with a discussion of the Israeli incursion into Lebanon in 1982 following the Camp David Accords, a polemic on the Occupied Territories, and a summary of the legal content of Palestinian rights and what Palestinians have lost since the creation of Israel in 1948. Most useful is the appendix of the various peace proposals. The author's version of events as they relate to the Arab-Israeli conflict remains a serious challenge to the more popularized and often sanitized history of this bitter struggle.-- Sanford R. Silverburg, Catawba Coll., Salisbury, N.C.
