Jachym Topol is the son of Josef Topol, renowned playwright, poet, and Shakespeare translator. He played an active role in the 1989 Velvet Revolution, writing and editing Respekt, an independent newsletter. His first collection of poetry, I Love You Madly received the Tom Stoppard Prize for Unofficial Literature.
