About the Author

Eric Dorn Brose is well known for his work on Wilhelmine and pre-1848 Germany, World War I, and twentieth-century Europe. He is Professor in the Department of History and Politics at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

"... fills an important gap in the survey literature of modern German history ... extraordinarily readable, compact and comprehensive coverage ... a balanced presentation of the arguments for and against positions on all sides ... Apt and lively quotations from contemporaries and present-day historians inform the story throughout. The reader will have a clear sense of historical progression and major connections, while leading personalities in all fields are recognizable characters. In all, a fine achievement." * Central European History
