About the Author

Bernard Offen was born in Krakow in 1929. Following his retirement in 1981 he returned to Poland for the first time, and in recent years he has returned each year, renewing his connection with his place of birth and dealing with the past in a 'journey of healing'. He guides visitors around the Krakow Ghetto and Plaszow and Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps, telling them his personal memories of the Nazi treatment of Jews, and also speaks to young students in the Krakow area about his experience of the Holocaust.
