About the Author

Bernard Stiegler is the director of the Institut de recherche et d'innovation at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and a founder of the association Ars Industrialis. He obtained his thesis at the �cole des haute �tudes en sciences sociales in 1992 under the supervision of Jacques Derrida, and since then has published over thirty books, and taught at many universities around the world. He has also been deputy director of the French Institut National de l'Audiovisuel (INA), director of the musical research institute Ircam and director of the Cultural Development Department at the Pompidou. Daniel Ross obtained his doctorate from Monash University in 2002, with a thesis on "Heidegger and the Question of the Political". His book Violent Democracy (Cambridge University Press) was published in 2004, and the same year saw the premier at the Rotterdam International Film Festival of a feature documentary that he co-directed with David Barison: The Ister, would go on to win prizes at film festivals in Marseille and Montreal later that year. Ross has worked extensively with Stiegler and published ten volumes of translation of Stiegler's work.
