Reviews

Stoller's Stitch 'N Bitch and Stitch 'N Bitch Nation have become icons of the knitting craze: every hip young needleworker has at least one of them next to the yarn stash. Now, she uses the same approach that made her knitting books so successful in this entrée to sexed-up hookwork that takes pains to show crocheting isn't for grandma anymore. Stoller provides everything short of the hook and yarn a crafter will need to learn how to crochet. From a history of the craft to mind-bogglingly complete instructions and dozens of charted and explained patterns (the majority of which are for women's clothing and accessories--there are no afghans here), it's all presented in Stoller's bright, witty style and accompanied by cheery color photographs. Beginners will like the easy construction of the "Stripes (and Stripes) Forever Scarf," and intermediate crocheters will enjoy whipping up a "Cupcake," a purple sweater confection. Experienced crocheters have patterns here too, such as the astonishing lace "Go For Baroque" sweater. This latest entry into the Stitch 'N Bitch canon is sure to be another bestseller.

This is a fabulous manual not just for the beginner in crochet. The sections on how to crochet are amazingly easy to understand. There is a comprehensive section on different stitches, and how to turn the few stitches actually used in crochet into a multitude of different looking fabrics. The illustrations are very clear, and it is written in a fun but informative way. The patterns included in the book - and I counted 42 of them - are gorgeous, and fun, and modern. Everything from skirts to bags to bikinis to hats and scarves is in here. The photographs entice you into wanting to crochet on and on... I love this book and highly recommend it.

Suited to the crochet beginner. Not suitable if you are mainly a visual learner (as in need to be shown first to learn) though. Patterns are easy to understand and clear... some very nice and easy patterns to get you started. Overall rating: Worth the money and your time :)

This is a really great beginner book for crochet. The instructions at the beginning are really fabulous and very clear. The patterns range from very easy to difficult with a great range of different types of yarn and hook sizes to really try out all your new skills.
