Rudolf Lukeš graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He became a set designer in the movie industry until he was blacklisted by the Communist government in 1948 and forced to leave his job. Anonymously entering a competition held by a publishing house to find a new illustrator, he won and went on to produce children's books that were published around the world, although his name was never allowed on the cover. Today, his artistic talent lives on in these wonderful books which have been enjoyed by generations of children and parents alike.
