Underground rapper Dudley Perkins's sophomore release improves on his debut. Still present are the smoked-out atmospheres, the 1970s soul and R&B influences, and the lazy, in-the-cut, sing-song rhymes. But EXPRESSIONS is more focused than its predecessor, and the tracks created by nutty-professor producer Madlib roll with more ease and hit with more punch. The track "Focused" may be a bit misleading, since Madlib and Perkins are dedicated to keeping things loose and hazy, but EXPRESSIONS is a fun, creative, and soulful ride nonetheless.
