The word "bootleg" conjures low-fidelity, poorly-sequenced tracks, and a raw, thrown-together feel. The irony here is that this pre-NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS batch of Sex Pistols demos sounds slicker, tighter, and savvier than the legitimate album that succeeded it. Released just before their debut album in 1977, these recordings--nascent versions of many of the tracks from BOLLOCKS--were quickly suppressed. Although they've shown up as bonus tracks elsewhere, this is the first official CD release of SPUNK on its own, and well worth owning for the historical value alone.
