An enchanting debut novel from a highly-acclaimed writer/historian, full of invention but rooted convincingly in Celtic mythology. Fantasy combined with a vividly-drawn coming of age story. At last - a heroine truly takes centre stage in a world of male-oriented fantasy writing. Lucy Coats has a highly original voice and brings a much-needed wicked sense of humour to the fantasy genre. Hardback published to stellar reviews: 'Charming, enathralling' (Daily Telegraph); 'A lyrical fantasy full of old, dark magic entertainingly bound up with ordinary life' (Sunday Times); 'An assured debut novel, set in a familiar-but-different world, steeped in myth and legend' (Sunday Telegraph). Lucy Coats is a highly promotable author who excels at readings and creative workshops with adults and children alike. Her website www.lucycoats.co.uk is a treasure trove of fact and fantasy in itself.
Lucy Coats grew up in a little Hampshire village on top of a hill, and spent much of her childhood outdoors. She went on to read Ancient History at Edinburgh University, then worked as an editor for a children's publisher, and now writes full-time. She is a gifted poet and reteller of myths and legends. She has two children and lives in the countryside in Northamptonshire.
A lovely book...with a timeless feel to it. Hootcat Hill could have been written longer ago than last year, and i hope taht means its appeal will last a long time - BOOKWITCH
