"Killing Detente is a fascinating and important historical 'post-mortem' on a neglected episode in the history of the decline and fall of the U.S.-Soviet detente of the 1970s. Using newly declassified documents, it recounts an important page in intelligence-policy relations. It is not only good history but also provides valuable advice for the present and the future." - Raymond L. Garthoff, The Brookings Institution
