Reviews

This is a serious and well-informed study of the three authors. The analysis of the 'ideological heroes', which distinguishes between the 'pioneer,' the 'model', and the 'follower', is illuminating and adds to the understanding of the structure of the novels (e.g., the structure based on opposite couples). The comments on the 'roman a these', on the historical novel, and on the demands made by the novel in general of the readers - in opposition to the demands of ideology - are welcome. o...! oTame! deftly mixes the plot development with the ideological development of the principal characters. o...! The style is clear and easy to read o...!, and the tone seems just right for this kind of work. (Maurice Weyembergh, Free University of Brussels)
