A thorough revision of a book that has served for years as a 'Baedeker' to the fascinating geology of the Hawaiian islands. It is clearly written and superbly illustrated with black-and-white and color photographs, line drawings, and maps. Each concept is so carefully developed and illustrated that no prior geologic knowledge is needed for understanding and yet the book serves the interests of professionals as well. What the book does is put the Islands into a modern plate tectonic framework and explain the constructive and destructive geologic processes that are active in creating the visible landscape....
