About the Author

George Burchett, the son of Wilfred Burchett, was born in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1955. He grew up in Moscow, Phnom Penh and Paris. He studied at Lycee Janson de Sailly in Paris and at the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he completed his Masters in Mural Art. In 1985 he moved to Australia with his wife and child. Their first six months in Australia were spent in Maningrida, Amhem Land, where George worked as arts and crafts advisor to the local Aboriginal community. Since settling in Sydney, George Burchett has completed numerous arts commissions in Australia and Southeast Asia and has exhibited widely. He also works as a subtitler at SBS TV. Nick Shimmin was born in Liverpool, England, and moved in 1969 with his family to Sydney, where he was educated. He returned to England in 1985 to study at the University of Lancaster for a doctorate on Manx writing. He now works in publishing and as a subtitling editor at SBS, where he met George Burchett.
