About the Author

Maarten Jansen is Professor of Mesoamerican Archaeology and History at Leiden University (The Netherlands). He is the main author of the 13 volume series Codices Mexicanos (Mexico 1991-1997) and was distinguished with the Order of the Aztec Eagle. Gabina Aurora Perez Jimenez, a native speaker of Mixtec, teaches Mixtec language and culture at Leiden University. She has co-authored with Maarten Jansen several studies of Mexican codices.
