The Author: Graham Shorrocks is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He is a native of Farnworth, a town within the Bolton Metropolitan Borough. He edits Regional Language Studies - Newfoundland, and is President of the English National Committee of the Atlas Linguarum Europae, as well as a member of the A.L.E.'s Editorial Board. He has published widely on English dialects.
