Dr Andrew Davies is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the
Royal Marsden Hospital, which is the largest comprehensive cancer
centre in Europe. His main interests involve management of symptoms
in cancer patients, particularly oral symptoms/problems (e.g.
salivary gland dysfunction; oral candidosis). He trained in general
medicine and oncology, before specialising in Palliative Medicine.
Dr Joel Epstein is Professor of Oral Medicine in the Department of
Oral
Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences and the Department of
Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and a member of the
Chicago Cancer Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His
main interests are
in early detection and management of oral premalignant lesions and
supportive care in cancer including acute and chronic complications
and quality of life.
In summary, this is a very useful reference text for anyone
involved in the management of these complex and challenging
patients. It increases the awareness of oral conditions, their
causes, and by using evidence based medicine, a basis for sound
treatment strategies.
