Reviews

a judicious synthesis covering a wide range of onomastic areas and it goes well beyond the historic-philological approach of traditional onomastic studies. Professor Hough is to be congratulated for having assembled a team of experts to produce a work of reference which will be most useful to professional onomasts and non-specialists alike.
*John Insley, European Romantic Review*

There is no better single guide to the range, quality and potential of current onomastic research.
*Peter McClure, Journal of the English Place-Name Society*

...likely to become one of the standard works of reference and, in fact, a must-have for everyone interested in the science of names and naming. It works both as a tool for individual researchers and as additional reading material in classes on onomastics and related fields.
*Peter Backhaus, Professor at the Department of English Language and Literature, Waseda University, Tokyo, Linguist*
