About the Author

Seymour Slive is Gleason Professor of Fine Arts emeritus at Harvard University and former director of the Harvard University art museums. He has published extensively, in particular on Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Ruisdael, and is the author of Dutch Painting, 1600-1800 (ISBN 0 300 07451 4, pb. ?25.00*), published by Yale University Press in the Yale Pelican History of Art series.
