About the Author

Ian Curtis was born in Stretford, Lancashire, and grew up in Macclesfield. He met his Joy Division bandmates Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook at a Sex Pistols gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall, Manchester, in 1976. Later joined by drummer Stephen Morris, Joy Division released two seminal post-punk albums: Unknown Pleasures (1979) and the posthumous Closer (1980).Jon Savage is the author of England's Dreaming: Sex pistols and Punk Rock, Teenage: The Creation of Youth, 1875-1945 and The England's Dreaming Tapes. He has written sleevenotes for Wire, St Etienne and the Pet Shop Boys, among others, and his compilations include: Meridian 1970 (Heavenly/EMI 2005), Queer Noises 61-78: From the Closet to the Charts (Trikont 2006) and Dreams Come True: Classic Electro 1982-1987 (Domino 2008).
