About the Author

James Connolly was an Irish republican and a revolutionary socialist leader, aligned to syndicalism and the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies). He rose to prominence during the Dublin Lockout, became the General Secretary of the Irish Transport and General Workers` Union and commander of the Irish Citizen Army (ICA). As a result of his involvement in the failed Easter Rising (1916) he was executed on the orders of the British authorities. Peter Berresford Ellis has published widely on Irish and Celtic history and culture, including the now classic A History of the Irish Working Class, also available from Pluto Press.
