About the Author

Dr. Hammer received her Master of Science degree from New York University and her Doctorate in Nursing from Adelphi University. She has been a nurse educator for almost thirty five years having taught in associate, baccalaureate and master’s degree programs. She is retired from Quinnipiac University where she served as the chairperson of the department of nursing and as the former academic coordinator of the master’s program in forensic nursing. Dr. Hammer has a strong interest in forensic issues particularly in the area of elder and child abuse and in forensic nursing education. She has authored and co-authored several articles and presented at many conferences relative to forensic nursing. Dr. Moynihan is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Quinnipiac University. She is the Coordinator of the Master of Science in Nursing, Forensic Nursing Track. Dr. Moynihan has been involved in the area of victim's rights for many years. She was the Head Nurse of the Emergency Department at Yale New Haven Hospital for 10 years and during that time developed the Victomology Program which provided comprehensive services to clients who had been sexually abused or assaulted, as well as to clients who were or who had been experiencing domestic violence. Dr. Moynihan assisted with the development of the Greater New Haven Task Force on Domestic Violence, a multidisciplinary collaboration of professionals and community members whose focus is to address the multiplicity of needs and issues involved in domestic violence. She was involved with the development of the Statewide Medical Protocol for the examination and treatment of sexual assault survivors as well as the development of the statewide standardized evidence collection kit. Dr. Moynihan has been involved in police training and has served as an Expert Witness in both civil and criminal cases. She is currently participating in a national research project whose focus is to develop a tool to identify elder sexual abuse. Dr. Moynihan has also authored several articles related to sexual abuse and domestic violence. Elaine Pagliaro is a forensic science consultant who served as Assistant Director/ acting as Director at the Connecticut Forensic Science Laboratory, where she worked in Criminalistics and Forensic Biology for more than 27 years. During that time, Ms. Pagliaro was involved in most of the major criminal investigations in Connecticut and in cases of national prominence, such as the Martha Moxley murder, the Michael Ross serial murders, the investigation of the death of Vincent Foster and the infamous “Woodchipper Murder” case. She is an adjunct faculty member at several Connecticut universities and colleges, where she instructs students of criminalistics, criminal justice, and the law. A summa cum laude graduate of the Quinnipiac University School of Law, Ms. Pagliaro is a member of the bar in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and the Federal District of New Hampshire. She serves on the board of directors of two non-profit organizations that address issues related to sexual assault and sexual exploitation.
