This excellent survey of the central tenets of Hindu philosophy not only covers historical sources but relates the major ideas to Western thought in a current language that does not resort to ``pop lingo.'' Many parallels between the tradition of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda and Christian theology are explored. The author has an international reputation and is admired by Christopher Isherwood, one of Vedanta's first exponents in the West.
