Sally is a black Labrador and in lovely clean, bright, simple illustrations, made with woodcuts, we share her exciting holiday at the beach. No people in this story, for here the dogs star! Humans are only hinted at when we see an occasional pair of human hands driving the car, or a pair of feet lying on a beach towel. This holiday is definitely for the dogs, and the book shows all the joy and delight the animals would have on a beach holiday. Sally meets lots of other dogs on the ferry journey and they enjoy frolicking on the sand and in the sea, investigating all the wonderful smells and curious creatures. But Sally still needs a human to wield the can opener at the end of the day! The simple text is in a very readable font, and the illustrations bright and bold. This book is perfect for allowing young children and parents to share the joys and remember, or plan, their beach trips. There is a note included about woodcuts and just how the illustrations are created. This information, much sought after by teachers and librarians, is of interest to the children and parents too.
