About the Author

The Author: Israel Rubin, an immigrant from Rumania, received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and taught at Northwestern University, University of Minnesota, and Cleveland State University. He is now Professor Emeritus of Sociology. His writings include the first edition of Satmar: An Island in the City, and a variety of articles and reviews in social science journals.
