About the Author

A professor of English and senior associate dean in the college of humanities at Ohio State University, Jacqueline Jones Royster has published Traces of a Stream: Literacy and Social Change Among African American Women, winner of the Mina P. Shaughnessy Prize awarded by the Modern Language Association, and Critical Inquiries: Readings on Culture and Community.
