Reviews

"Berkshire ... has made an auspicious publishing debut with this unique and readable guide to world history." Library Journal Best Reference Resources 2004 "... no Western bias; there are numerous articles on African and Asian kingdoms and biographies of world figures from ancient through modern times. Sidebars, maps, black-and-white photos, and extracts from documents and books are judiciously distributed throughout the text... this specialized encyclopedia offers a fresh approach to answering the question: How did the world get to be the way it is? It is recommended for public, high school, and university library reference collections." Library Journal, January 2005 Booklist Editors' Choice 2004 "A masterful title that weaves together the social, scientific, anthropological, and geographical influences on world history, this set will be the benchmark against which future history encyclopedias are compared ... [and] belongs on the shelves of all high-school, public, and academic libraries. In short: buy it. Now." Booklist Starred Review, January 2005 "The encyclopedia's layout is superb... [and the entries] are nothing short of fascinating... Close attention was paid to seemingly minute details that have a great impact on the encyclopedia's ease of use... truly, a fun reference tool for students of all ages... High school, public, and academic libraries will benefit from adding it to their collections and promoting its use at the reference desk." Against the Grain, February 2005 "[A] fascinating, engaging analysis of how history has been shaped by key issues, events, and discoveries. Summing Up: Highly recommended. General and academic collections." Choice, April 2005
