About the Author

Jordy Jones (Jordy Tackitt-Jones) is an independent scholar, curator, artist and activist. He has a BA in Conceptual and Information Arts and an MA in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University. He trained as a historian and theoretician of photography and lens-based media at the University of California, Irvine, where he was a U.C. Chancellor's Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in Visual Studies, with an emphasis in Critical Theory, in 2008. He is an avid collector of homoerotic art and early photography, especially 19th century representations of men. Jones has worked with organizations as diverse as the San Francisco Art Institute, The GLBT Historical Society, The International Lesbian and Gay Association, Intermedia Arts Minnesota and The Guggenheim Soho. He has served on the governing boards of The Lab, The San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade Committee and The Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club. He is a past member of the LGBT Advisory Committee of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, and as chair of the San Francisco Transgender Civil Rights Implementation Task Force, he was key in removing exclusions from the health benefits package for City employees and for furthering trainings for the police and sheriff's departments. He has commendations for his service from the City and County of San Francisco, the City of Oakland and the State of California. He serves on the board of the Queer Cultural Center and is an honorary member of The 15 Association, both based in San Francisco. Recent curatorial projects have included the exhibits Little Presents: Prints and Polaroids from the Warhol Foundation, and Tough Love: A Half-century of Masculine Homoerotic Imagery from the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Tackitt-Jones is a native Californian and a long-time San Francisco resident now residing in rural Mendocino County with his husband Marty and their canine pack, Jam the Giant Poodle, Freebox the Rotten-hound and Kiddo the Wolf-dog. In the spirit of Marcel Duchamp and Rrose Sélavy, he uses noms d'art on occasion.
